Read-only EXIF viewer

About this tool

See the metadata hidden in a photo: camera model, date taken and GPS coordinates if they are present. The file is read in your browser only. Nothing is uploaded or stored.

How to use

  1. Choose a photo or drop an image onto the page.
  2. Read the EXIF fields shown in the table.
  3. Check the GPS row: if it is there, the photo stores a location.
  4. To remove metadata before you share the photo, use EXIF stripper.

FAQ

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The file is read in memory in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server or stored.

Why is there no GPS data in my photo?

Many apps and phones strip location data, or location was switched off when the photo was taken.

What else can EXIF reveal besides location?

Depending on the camera or phone: the date and time taken, device model, lens and settings, editing software, and sometimes an owner or artist name or a serial number. The viewer shows what is in your file.

Why does this matter for privacy?

GPS coordinates and owner fields can point to where someone lives or works. Under the GDPR, data like this can count as personal data when it relates to a person. Check a photo before you share it, and remove the metadata if you don't need it there.
